The Vermont Internet Service Provider Operating Company (VISPO), a Vermont non-profit benefit corporation, has been engaged to operate the internet service provider owned by a special-purpose regional municipality, the East-Central Vermont Telecommunications District. The business is known by its trade name, ECFiber. The District is Vermont’s first Communication Union District (CUD) and comprises 31 Vermont towns.
Overview:
VISPO’s primary focus is the management of the operation and construction of a fiber-to-premises telecommunications (Internet and phone) network under contract with ECFiber, governed by a Board comprising appointees from each of its member towns. The operation of the network is funded through monthly revenues, and network expansion is funded through municipal revenue bonds.
